It’s 10:30pm and I’m sitting in a hotel room in Chicago after attending SocialRev’s #BBSummit12 blogging conference. I don’t normally post immediately after a conference – there are usually too many thoughts swirling in my head and I need time to sort and process them.
I’ve been to several blogging conferences. I’ve received valuable info and insights during all of them. I’ve been filled with new ideas on ways to improve my blog and discovered new friendships.
Today was a little bit different. In the middle of the learning and expanding my horizons, inspiration struck. Inspiration in the form of a red mesh dress.
This is me, Andrea Metcalf, and Sadie (Slap Dash Mom) at the #BBSummit12 after party. Andrea is the reason I’m writing this post. She’s AMAZING. Beyond her book, Naked Fitness, and her numerous TV appearances and speaking engagements, Andrea is a down-to-earth and helps people learn to believe in themselves.
Today she spoke about action plans, goal setting, and other secrets to success. I took 3 pages of notes, jotting down her thoughts as well as my own. I felt empowered by her presentation and ready to tackle the world.
After the conference, I had to opportunity to speak to her again at the after party. We talked and shared personal stories, including some significant life events that led her to where she is today. She not only listened to Sadie and I as we spoke, she also jotted down notes so that she could remember the highlights of our conversation.
Andrea impressed me so much that when we got back to our hotel room, I ordered two copies of her book – one for myself and one for Sadie, so she can be my virtual buddy through the program. I’m excited to try it out, of course, but my real enthusiasm lies elsewhere.
Whether she ever knows it or not, Andrea just motivated me to find a mentor that can help me turn my passion for writing and marketing into a reality. It might not happen now or even within the next 6 months, but long-term, I know what my goals are. I know they’re attainable, and I know I can bring them to life.
Thank you for igniting that spark Andrea.
