This past week I had the opportunity to take a glass blowing glass at FOCI Minnesota Center for Glass Arts.
It. Was. Awesome.
I’ve been wanting to take a glass blowing class for nearly 10 years now, ever since I tapped into my creative side during a stone sculpture class way back in the day. I’m not really sure how I made the leap from stone to glass, but the desire has been there, quietly burning for a quite some time.
Recently, Living Social offered a deal I couldn’t pass up – a glass blowing class to make your own pint glass, followed by a beer tasting at FOCI: Minnesota Center for Glass Arts.
Obviously I jumped at the opportunity. How could I pass that up?
I had the wrong time written down for the class, so I wound up a half hour early, which gave me time to explore the gallery.
There were all kinds of amazing pieces, like these glass animal balloons.
Some of the vases overwhelmed me with their beauty.
This glass robot was one of the gallery pieces that really caught my eye.
As luck would have it, one of the instructors for the night was Todd Cameron, the creator of this robot piece.
Besides being totally cute, he’s also completely talented. I was able to catch him practicing making a horse on video, and he gave me permission to share the video here. I think this is just way too cool – in less than 90 seconds, he’s able to make a horse figurine out of glass.

Todd made a few of these while I was there. Here's a close up of one of the others so you can see more detail.
That's from just 90 seconds of working with molten glass. Isn’t that cool?
