Before getting my new Maytag kitchen appliances, I did a little DIY home project and destroyed my kitchen.
Well, not the whole kitchen. Just the old weird half-island I didn’t like. I needed a place to put my dishwasher, plus getting rid of the island REALLY opened up the room.
The problem is that I didn’t realize that back in 1950, the didn’t build cabinets on top of the flooring – they built the flooring around the cabinets.
Now that my dishwasher is in, I still have a weird hole in my floor that I need to fix. Ideally, I’d like to find some inexpensive, low-priced flooring that could just “fill-in” the open space, but since my kitchen floor is linoleum, I’m not sure if that’s even an option. I’m thinking I’ll have to go with tile, which will look a whole lot nicer than linoleum anyway.
I need some place like Floor and Decor. They have a HUGE storefront with a ginormous selection of porcelain, ceramic, stone, tile, wood, and laminate flooring.
Even though the closest location to me is in IL, they do offer shipping nationwide and even have a low-price guarantee where they’ll price match if you find a competitor with lower pricing. They’re known for having the best selection in tiles, so I think that’s a good place to start for my kitchen project. They even sell installation supplies, like grout, scrapers, mortar, and knee pads.
I was looking on their website, and they also have a section for “Quick & Easy” countertops. I’ve been out shopping at several hardware stores to price new countertops, since half of my dishwasher is exposed at the moment.
For now, I just covered up the hole in the floor with a piece of carpet, but I definitely need a new countertop to cover the rest of the the dishwasher. My old one doesn’t go far enough to fit over the appliance, plus the front is hacked off and not finished. (I took a sawzall to it so the cut isn’t the most even.)
Hopefully I’ll be able to find a new countertop and new flooring that will fit my budget. I can’t wait to have my kitchen put back together and looking pretty again!!
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Floor and Decor. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating. You can learn more about Floor and Decor on their website, Facebook, and Twitter. They even have a cool Pinterest page you can check out!
