Holiday Survival For MY Boobs. And My Butt. And My Waist. #NSNation

I posted this morning about holiday survival for breastfeeding. Since I’m not pumping anymore, my holiday survival concern is weight gain.

I’ve been on Nutrisystem for 5 weeks now. I haven’t lost as much as I’d like, but I’m not gaining any weight, which is a huge success for me. I’ve cheated a bit here and there and I fell off the exercise wagon, so it makes sense that I haven’t really lost much.

This time of year, it’s not about losing weight for me. It’s about not GAINING weight and falling back into my old eating habits.

Today my coworker Gareth told me I looked great. I couldn’t help but smile, He’s a guy, and he was complimenting my body (in a respectful, tasteful way, of course. He knows I’m doing the Nutrisystem plan and we were talking about our body struggles when he gave me the compliment.)

You know what? I think I look pretty good. Even more importantly, I FEEL really good about my body right now. Like many women, I’d love to lose weight, but I’m also happy with my current size. It’s a far cry from where I was 3 years ago (my pre-pregnancy size):

That’s me up front in the blue & white top. I was about a size 13 or 15 jeans then. Now I’m a 6 or 8. I do not want to go to that.

The holidays offer so many temptations that could lead to weight gain. Luckily, my Nutrisystem meals make it easy to resist temptation and only indulge a tiny bit. For example, tomorrow we’re having a pot luck at work. There’s going to be food EVERYWHERE. But I know that if I eat my Nutrisystem breakfast muffin before getting to the office, I’ll be able to walk past the treat table without looking back.

That’s really my secret – eating before I go somewhere I know is full of temptation. It’s MUCH easier to resist a full slice of pie if I’m already full. Instead, I can take a bite, savor the flavor, and move on. I get my sweet fix without adding a lot of extra padding to my waist and hips. Win.

Week 5 Weigh-In: 141.2

My goal for the next two weeks: 141 or less

That might not seem like much of a goal, but this is Thanksgiving week we’re headed into, people. I have the entire week off work. I’ll be surrounded by temptation. This isn’t a test of my physical ability to lose weight so much as a test of my mental and emotional willpower. I would rather set a realistic goal I know I can work towards and achieve than one I know I’m likely to fail.
