Better Than A Gameboy: Meet The MobiGo 2

When I was little, it was a HUGE deal when my brother Corey and I got our GameBoys. We took lots of long car trips, so they came with us for those regular 6 hour drives. Remember these things?

Now, there’s a new kid on the block – the MobiGo 2 from VTech. This thing is so much cooler than the GameBoy systems my brother and I had as a kid.

First, it has a touch screen, which Levi loves. He likes to use the stylus to use the art studio and coloring book apps.

MobiGo Drawing 2

Even though the MobiGo 2 is designed for kids ages 3-8, Levi still had a blast figuring it out. He just turned two, and although he can’t color in the lines yet, he still easily connected the concept of using the stylus to draw on the screen.

Jason thought it was great for teaching Levi his ABC’s using the reading app. He would point out a word to Levi and show him which letter it started with, then let Levi find the matching letter on the keyboard.

MobiGo Playing With Dad

The Hamster Highway game was the biggest hit. I’m still not exactly sure what it’s all about, but I know when they turn it on, all I hear are giggles from both of them.

The MobiGo 2 allows kids to learn reading, math, vocabulary, and much more. It comes with a motion sensor, touchpad, AND built-in microphone for maximum play. At $59.99, I think it’s a much more affordable and age-appropriate toy than something like a Nintendo DS or iPad.

We’re planning a trip to Wisconsin Dells this winter, which is a 4-hour drive from our house. I know the MobiGo 2 will definitely come with us to help keep Levi entertained in his car seat and also in the hotel room.

In the meantime, I have 80+ apps to check out from the VTech Learning Lodge Navigator. I can’t wait to see which one turns out to be Levi’s favorite!

Why Didn’t We Have Cool Game Systems Like This As A Kid?

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for VTech. I received product samples to facilitate my review.

  1. Nena Sinclair says:

I love anything that combines fun and learning and this certainly does that! I like it!!

  2. Lucy Black says:

    Looks so much fun!

  3. We used to have a gameboy too! That was so long ago..

  4. Looks like lot’s of fun! My oldest son won a Leapfrog LeapPad and he really enjoys using it (but I find the apps are too expensive :()

  5. Seriously…I wish they’d had great games like this when I was young. Looks like a great educational tool, too!

  6. My son used to have a Vtech that attached to the TV that he loved! They are a great company. This looks like fun for the littles 🙂

  7. So fun!! My little 8 year old sister would love this!

  8. Jennifer Hedden says:

My nieces would love this! It is so neat especially the touchscreen and stylus. I know my youngest niece would love to use that to color and my older niece would enjoy the cool apps and games. The best part is that it is affordable. Thank you for the great review!

  9. Looks like a great handheld game!

  10. This does look great. The other systems don’t tend to be made for little people to play with them. It’s so good to find one that suits them. Thanks.

  11. Michelle F. says:

    My nephew would love this!

  12. I’ve been looking at this I’m torn between the mobi go /leapad or Inno tab.

  13. Looks fun!

  14. Technology has come such a long way. I remember the gameboy and the screen really wasn’t the easiest to see. The MobiGo looks so much better. The touch screen opens up so much more that you can do too. We could never color paint or draw. Apps what were they lol no such thing with the original gameboy.
