The new year’s started which means I’m starting the countdown until my cruise in February to the Caribbean. It’ll be my first time there and I think it’s going to be a great escape from a Winter here in Minnesota. It’s freezing! Going on that nice warm cruise means it’s time to kick my own butt and try to get ready to be seen in a bikini.
Many women are going to start this year with a resolution to go to a gym and get in shape, but then you get the stares from the gym regulars… and think they’re all staring at you… and they probably are. I don’t think I could take a class at a gym and stand next to the woman who goes 4 times a week and has the positions and moves down to an art. You always know the new people in a dance-aerobics class because we look hilarious.
Majesco has me in mind apparently because they’ve released Zumba Fitness Core. This game has over 3o different dance styles and it’s been made to target your abs and core muscles. That’s what people will see if I get brave and wear that bikini, so it’s perfect! This Zumba game lets you dance along to a fitness routine with one of six instructors that walk you through how to do it. There’s even a great tutorial mode for those of us who don’t have a lot of Zumba (or rhythm) under our belts already.
Some of my favorite features of this game so far:
- The soundtrack is actually a lot of music I recognize which helps since I already know the songs and can move along to them a little easier. It’s a lot easier than trying to keep up with some of the more generic music that’s on a lot of the time in aerobics classes.
- There’s a goal feature in the game. That means setting a number to work toward rather than just saying, “I want to work out this week” or “I want to get in shape”. It makes it easier to hold yourself accountable to your goals.
- You can customize your own workout, so I can make something that fits me a little better if I’m not feeling the normal routine is going to work for that day.
I’m happy that now I have a way that I can dance and work out “with an instructor” in my living room… with the blinds shut… where nobody can see. Now just to get Mike out of the house to avoid comments from the peanut gallery while I’m at it.
