Basement Remodel Progress: We Have Walls!

After our little near-explosion, the basement remodel has been progressing relatively safely.

Insulation went up without a hitch. Our contractor did that part.

Then the drywall for the ceiling was hung. Jason doesn’t have a lot of experience with drywall, so we hired someone for that. They gave us a discount on labor since Jason worked along side them. Double benefit – we saved money, and he learned how to do it himself so next time we can handle it on our own.

I thought having the drywall on the ceiling would make the basement look much smaller, but it wasn’t until the walls went up that I really started seeing the change.

It looks totally different to me now that there’s a real ceiling. And real walls.

Now that the drywall has all been hung, this week is all about mudding, taping, and sanding to fill in the gaps between the drywalls sheets and smooth everything out so it looks like a regular wall.

After that it’s time for paint, and we just decided on a theme – The Muppets!
