Trying out a new detergent can be hit or miss in our house, since both Jason and Levi have sensitive skin. We put Arm & Hammer® Liquid Laundry Detergent Sensitive Skin Plus to the test and were pleasantly surprised at the outcome. I was worried about the fragrance causing an eczema flare up for Jason, but it didn’t bother his skin at all. My clothes were clean and smelled fresh without the scent lingering too long. Arm & Hammer made our laundry routine stress-free and that makes it worth its weight in gold.
Levi’s skin was fine, too, though we do wash his cloth diapers with a special cloth diaper laundry soap, so I can’t really comment on how it might affect the diaper area (finding a laundry routine with cloth diapers is really tough, so I didn’t want to go through the trial & error of trying a new detergent for those).
The photo above is of Levi getting ready to help Jason with laundry – he was in charge of carrying the soap downstairs to our washer & dryer. He loves to carry stuff up and down from the basement. Jason does the majority of the laundry (I know, I know, I would totally fail at being a housewife) and we generally prefer liquid over powder detergent, since that seems to rinse cleaner and leave less buildup on the clothes.
We have an HE front-loading washing machine, so I always only use half the amount (or less) recommended on the bottle when I use non-HE-specific laundry soap. Even though I used way less than the directions said to use, my clothes still came out clean & smelling fresh. I’m sure that not only helps stretch my budget, since I’ll get more loads out of a single bottle, but it also helps me make sure we’re not using too much soap that could leave a residue that would cause skin irritation.
When you have sensitive skin, it’s important to use laundry detergent specifically designed for your family’s needs. Harsh chemicals, scents, and dyes can cause rashes or eczema flare ups, and that’s something nobody wants to deal with! You can find out more about the Sensitive Skin Plus line on the Arm & Hammer Facebook page. Their wall is always open for questions and comments, like which product line would work best if you have hard or soft water, sensitive skin or allergies.
Do you use scented or unscented laundry soap?
I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Arm & Hammer and received a product sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

We use purex free and clear and haven’t had any problems with sensitivity. I didn’t realize arm & Hammer has a sensitive formula. Good to know.

We also use arm & hammer sensitive skin. The kind I buy is fragrance free. We have had issues with a ton of detergents (even the free & clear types). Arm &hammer is the only thing that has not flared her ezcema up!
We’ve not tried the laundry detergent but otherwise I swear by Arm and Hammer. I always thought it was odorless, now I’m encouraged to pick up A&H on my next grocery round. Thanks for sharing!

Oh my gosh!!!!! You would not believe how I am suffering as we speak ( or as I write) with a rash like I have never seen!!! I know it’s from a new and different laundry detergent i bought and NEVER again will I do that!!! I need to go to the store and get some of this Arm and Hammer / Sensitive Skin immediatley!! (If I can stop scratching myself long enough) It’s miserable!
Fortunately we don’t have skin allergies, so we can use both scented and unscented. I won a container of Charlie’s Soap laundry detergent in a giveaway a couple months ago, and that stuff is awesome. Hypo-allergenic, environmentally friendly, and it takes so little to do a load. I also won a bottle of stain remover, but I haven’t even had to use it because their laundry detergent works so well.
We also use Charlie’s here. And you can recycle the container when you’re done
I have eczema and other skin issues and at the moment have a rash on my inner left thigh, my inner left arm and my left breast. Nice huh? I’ll have to try this and see if the laundry soap isn’t perhaps contributing to my skin condition. Thanks for the review!

Definitely unscented as we have skin allergies. We use the tide free for clothes and country save for cloth diapers.
We use what I suspect is a knockoff of Seventh Generation’s free and clear, which has been great for us, although we don’t really have skin sensitivities (yet, knock on wood). I guess I don’t know any liquid CD-safe detergents? All the ones I know are powders…
We do! I use rockin green hard rock for our diapers, lavender mint and Purex natural elements, lavender scent for our regular laundry. My daughter has really sensitive skin, and the Purex works great! She is potty trained, but I never could find a detergent that worked for her, so she was in sposies. The arm and hammer that you are testing broke her out terribly!!! The Purex dorks great for her though on regular laundry.
I use scented laundry detergent, but my kids were not sensitive to laundry detergent
I just bought some the other day. Love it.
We use a variety of different detergents. Usually just what ever is on sale. We have yet to have an issue with skin sensitivity.
I make my own laundry soap. Ridiculously cheap, natural, and you can customize it to suit your own needs and preferences. I scent mine with tea tree oil!
