This post is part of the “What Can You Do While Pumping?” video series.

As a mom who works full time during the day and goes to school at night, I need to squeeze the most out of my time. This means multitasking – and pumping is no exception.

Using a PumpEase hands-free pumping support has enabled me to pump while out and about. Specifically, I’m now able to pump while driving, which means my commute does double-duty several times a week. Think pumping while driving is hard? Let me show you how easy it can be:

You’ll want to start by putting your PumpEase on:

Next, you want to make sure you have everything ready for your drive:

Everything is in place, now you’re ready to insert your pump flanges, turn on your pump, and away you go!

See? Easy peasy :)

This was interesting! WTG! LOL! I tried to breast feed but had complications due to a blood transfusion.

You are one rockin' mama! Love the new design, too!

    • lifewithlevi says:

I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't know blood transfusions could cause breastfeeding complications, but that makes perfect sense.

Wow I am impressed! I have to say that I always had a hard time getting a good pump latch and had to like JAM the flanges onto me. I think maybe b/c I am VERY small chested (even while nursing) so there wasn’t much to “grab” for the flanges. :) Maybe one of those pump ease things would’ve helped me though!

I bet different shields might help. There are companies like Pumpin' Pals that make angled flanges.

If I’m ever able to get an electric pump I will most definitely do this!

I have a Pump Ease and use it with 2 manual pumps and I’m pumped and driven one handed (not the safest thing in the world).

      • lifewithlevi says:

I can't imagine trying to manual pump and drive. I'm glad you didn't get in an accident. Electric pumps are expensive, but for me, sooo worth the convenience.

    • I love my pump ease! but was scared to death to do it in the car- I know other mommas have! WTG!

Thanks. I think I had it a bit easier since I drive an SUV and most other drivers wouldn't be able to see what I'm doing if they look over (since I'm higher up than in a sedan). I recommend using a nursing cover or something if you drive a car that's easier to peek into.

      Just stumbled onto your site!

I pumped and drove for over a year. Loved that I could get one more pump in before getting home and not delaying my arrival. So awesome to see others out there taking advantage of the time. I have a homemade pumping bra :) An inexpensive bra with hols cut in the middle for the flange. I wore a breast pad to cover the holes when not pumping. Worked great and saved me lots of money!

That's awesome Amber! I never thought to try making my own. I would get a lot of milk when I pumped in the earlier months, so I went with something I knew could handle the weight.

I never thought to pump while driving. I think that I am too easily distractible. Worth a try at least once though, right? Thanks for this. :)

The closest I ever came to this is pumping in the car at work because its the most private place to do it! until it started reaching 115 degrees in the summer.. lol I switched to a manual pump so this might be quite difficult. You are so brave with all your pumping while… videos! I love it!

Amazing article! I used to have to pull over on the side of the road somewhere to breastfeed my son. I thought that was difficult. I’ve never heard of pumping and driving but am really impressed! I wasn’t able to pump at all. Lets just say my son demanded his milk straight from the source!

you go girl with your bad self!

    • Maria Ivey says:

Wow! This is amazing. I’ll be going back to work soon and wondering how I’ll squeeze in a few more pumping sessions. Guess now I know!

    • Leslie Guenther says:

Awesome thank you. I had never heard of this before. Awesome.

I commented on your “Pumping while Mowing the Lawn” saying I couldn’t do it because I don’t have a lawn. This is something I CAN do and it’s a good idea! I’ll definitely be thinking about doing it on those hour long drives I have to make to my parents house! Doing it to and from work would be pointless since it’s only 10 minutes away.
